Salt producers and officials said that due to the frequent rains, the start of this year’s salt production was delayed until January. Salt production has also declined compared to the same period in 2022, at just 10,000 tons. Nuon Phalla, the owner of a salt factory located in Sangkat Treuy Koh said that this year, salt production and harvesting was slower and less productive than last year due to unfavorable weather. Sok Kim Choeun, Director of Kampot Provincial Department said If the weather continues are favorable from now, salt production in 2023 will be no less than 60,000 tons, while the salt fields in Kampot province will be able to produce more than 110,000 tons per year, that is enough for nationwide consumption needs.
