Cambodia H1 cashew nut exports dip 12.67%

363,173 tons of cashew nuts were shipped from Cambodia in the first half of 2023, a decrease of 12.7 percent from the same period last year. The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries explained the decline in exports caused by the unstable market, the impact of climate, and the lack of official export records to other countries. According to Silot Uon, Country Director of Cashew Nut Association of Cambodia (CAC), the cutting of over 100,000 hectares of cashew trees in the previous two years has had a negative effect on export performance. Cashew has been identified as an agro-industrial crop while the government also enacts the National Policy on Cashew Nuts for 2022-2027 which aims to boost productivity, and promote and improve the quality.
