The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Cambodia Office collaborated with the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) to enhance National Road 5, spanning 366 kilometers from Prek Kdam to Poi Pet City. This project is estimated to cost $709.35 million. The project chaired by Chhim Phalla, Director of the Road Infrastructure Department of MPWT, aims to transform the road into a highway infrastructure standard, from two-lane to four-lane. The project is scheduled to be completed by late November this year, with the last tasks covering a small distance of 36 kilometers from Banteay Meanchey Province to the border pass with Thailand. The project will also focus on improving road traffic safety and reducing accidents on National Road 5, with Min Meanvy, Secretary of State of the MPWT, urging motorcycle drivers to drive carefully on the main road.
